Principal’s Report (Dr. Underwood):
Smooth start to the school year.
MNPS Teacher shortage has been reported in the news. However, Meigs has been 100% staffed since the beginning of school.
Meigs has increased staff for ESL to include: Restorative Practices, STARS Counselor, and Full-Time Social Worker.
Outdoor classroom is starting to come to life. It’s in the front of the building, continuing to make progress.
Secretary’s Report (Caity)-
Let Caity know if you need any thank you notes written for support of Meigs. Email requests to: [email protected].
Communications Report (Amy)-
Keep sending updates for the Meigs Memos to Amy.
Meigs Mart Coordinator Report (Samantha & Malinda):
Samantha is in the process of rebuilding the online store so that the inventory will be self-sustaining and correct. Parents are really wanting to shop, so the store will open before and after school next week for a few days. Exact dates/times TBD.
Special Events & Other Means of Fundraising Report (Niki)
Jeni’s Ice Cream – 8/24/22 – was a success.
City Saver – begins 9/17 – will run for two weeks. Kids will sell coupon books to places around Nashville. Cost $25 and Meigs makes $12.50/book sold. If you want to help with City Saver campaign (filling orders/organizing books), email [email protected].
Titans – ongoing – selling tickets to 5 games this fall, discounted and makes money for Meigs.
Open to new places to host fundraisers: restaurants, etc. Email [email protected] to make recommendations.
Teacher Appreciation Committee Report (Diana for Theresa)
Teacher Breakfast at the beginning of school was a success.
All staff also got gift cards at the beginning of the year – those have been distributed.
Concessions Report (Diana for Frances)
We will be selling concessions at Volleyball games. If you’d like to volunteer to help sell concessions, email [email protected].
Unicycle Update (Laret and Jeff)
Update on Vintage Meigs Wear Clothes and the Clothes Closet – sold at Meigs 101. It was a big hit and fun to see older designs.
We are looking for donations of girls SSA approved bottoms in smaller sizes. A donation bin will be in the office.
Will be setting a date this fall to have another vintage sale at school that is separate from MeigsMart.
Talent Show Update (Dr. Underwood)
We are excited to bring the Talent Show back this year. It will be on a Friday from 7-9pm. We don’t have a date set yet.
Upcoming events and Unfinished Business
Hosting book fair in October/November – Amy/Niki will be in charge of this. It’ll be in person and open to families. Parent volunteers will be needed. Parents can email [email protected] or wait for the sign up genius to come out.
Announcements/Online and In Person Q&A
Parent Q: Are there any grandparents day/activity planned here at meigs?
There hasn’t been in the past, but we could have one. Talk to Dr. Underwood if you’d like to make a plan to do something like this.
Parent Q: Will Carnival be open to parents this year?
Volunteering parents are welcome, but it is not open to the public for safety reasons. Activities during the school day have to be closely monitored with parents signing in in the office, etc.
Parent Q: What is the timeline for Invest donations?
Money is accepted anytime during the school year. However, when money is turned in early in the year, it is better because then we can effectively build it into the budget and spend it on improvements/projects this same school year. Mention this to Rob to communicate this to families in his INVEST campaign.
