PTO MEETING 8/13/2020
76 participants

Hello Everyone,

First....THANK YOU to everyone for working so hard these past few weeks!  It isn't easy trying to bring everything together at a distance.

FUNDRAISERS:
Thank you...Frances!  We have received approval for some fundraisers from the district office.  I'm sure the others will follow soon. We did get approval for City Saver, INvest and Meigs Mart today.
Kristin with City Saver will speak for a few minutes (toward the beginning of the meeting) about TOUCHLESS CITY SAVER.Kristen spent a few minutes discussing how we can share City Saver with family and friends.  Text Nashville to 44944.  The return text is a text you can customize and send out to family and friends.  Families will sell city saver and the company will mail the books out.  There is $5 fee for shipping and a processing fee for credit card that amounts to about $1.25 per book.  Each book comes with a code for the city saver app which gives you double the coupons!  So it’s like getting two books for the price of one.  We do need to sell 300 books to receive 50% profits so sell sell sell!

Diana and Rob- Invest is live on meigspto.com. There are links to click and donate.  Dr Underwood is willing to deliver checks from the office to the treasurer as needed when receiving checks is approved..  Paypal is what we use for the invest payments online.  There is a slight processing fee of 1.6%.  We will be sending out a virtual flier with live links to share on social media and via email.  The key to the success of these fundraisers is lots of sharing!

FACEBOOK PAGES:
Ashley - Requested parent volunteers to help fun the individual grade level pages.  We are requesting 1 parent currently in the grade and one mentor parent to help keep these pages updated.  We will also be transitioning the Carpool and Bus Buddies page to a learning pods page where parents can connect with one another and set up learning pods.  Evrits is also a resource for parents to look up students in their zipcode or classroom to organize pods within.  The link for that is http://meigsdirectory.evrits.com.  If you are having difficulties with evrits, please reach out to melanie.claybrooks@mnps.org

LaTara - I know there were hurdles to jump, but you did it!  Our new PTO WEBSITE is launched. If everyone has a brief minute, please review the new site. Meigspto.com  LaTara encouraged parents to send in photos of their children in this new virtual learning environment using the contact information on the Meigs website or tag #MeigsStrong in your social media posts.

COMMUNICATION - is super important and everyone is working their hardest to make sure that questions are being answered in a timely manner.  Places to check for information would be the MeigsPTO website and facebook page.  Meigs Memos and the Meigs school website… http://www.meigsacademicmagnet.org/  Reach out to staff and teachers as needed.

FUTURE EVENTS - All future events are TBD.  Talent Show, Evening with the Arts, etc.

I will give a special shout out and thank you to everyone that reached out to volunteer.  Encourage volunteers.  We still need a VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR.  I do have an ongoing list of volunteers.  We will match the volunteers with the events as needed:  Book Fair, City Saver, etc.

Brandy - Meigs Spirit Wear Store. All preorder have been mailed.  The Spirit Store is live on the website.  We are still working out the details for a sliding scale on shipping.  Frances is going to check on a location to store extra inventory and Dr Underwood will have the inventory that was at Gra-Mar back at Meigs, this next week.  Inventory online will be updated as we are able to go through the boxes from Gra-Mar.  This will include hoodies, long sleeved shirts, magnets and stickers etc.
Dr Underwood:  Took a minute to explain some of the communication glitches and reminded us that Meigs is a solution oriented school.  Parent concerns and questions are welcome with the hope of a quick resolution.  Right now we are still working out of two schools but hopefully construction at Meigs will be finished within a month.  Map testing starts Monday.  This is a data point.  An opportunity to help ensure necessary interventions for Math and ELA.

Questions addressed

-  7th grade English listed 5 books to purchase for the year, but
once we ask the teacher about not finding one version of a certain book, we were informed following the Florida Virtual School we aren't sure we can use those books.  Some parents already purchased the books. Yes, all books are still good reads, but some students don't have extra funds right now to purchase items that aren't required. Dr U is working with the district for clarification.  He is finding out if the books will be provided or not and if so will set up a date for pick up as soon as he knows for sure.  This is the same for workbooks or printables needed for the Florida virtual school Look for more information on this in the near future.

-  Doctor's notes.  How do parents submit Doctor and Dentist notes for absences?  Some parents aren't able to scan the note and email to the office.  Is there a number available to take a picture of the note and text the absent excuse to? Dr’s notes can be emailed to the teachers, or to the office staff.  They will make sure it is getting to the correct person.

The week of the 17th we will be diving deeply into the curriculum.
There is no word on whether or not we will be returning to school after labor day.  Dr Underwood will keep us informed as he has information.

The PTO wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude and admiration of al our Meigs faculty, students and families during this time. We see our Meigs community adapting strongly to these unprecedented times and we applaud all of your resiliency and dedication to making Meigs the best institution it can be!
